As increasing numbers of I-140 downgrade cases are being processed, backlogs of old I-485 applications are being cleared out, and Consulates are gradually resuming normal operations, Immigration practitioners are facing queries from USCIS and Department of State about previously unidentified issues that can have long-reaching impact. Our panel of experts will provide recommendations on how to handle those surprises as well as how to inoculate cases against such unwelcome news in the future. This advanced-level presentation will focus on creative strategies when the government seeks evidence that has long since become stale, as well as arguments to combat allegations of fraud for perceived inconsistencies.

Dagmar Butte practices Business and Family Immigration and was an AILA Elected Director from 2005-2020. She received three AILA Presidential Commendations and the 2018 AILA Distinguished Service Award. Dagmar is listed as a SuperLawyer, Who’s Who Among Business Immigration Lawyers, and Chambers USA and is a member of the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers. She chaired or served on AILA National Committees including USCIS HQ, SCOPS, NSC Liaison, FOIA and speaks frequently on immigration topics.
Kevin W. Miner, USCIS HQ (Benefits Policy) Liaison Committee Vice Chair, Atlanta, GA
Kevin Miner is a Partner in the Atlanta office of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, and works with employers throughout the U.S. on business immigration processes. Mr. Miner is a co-author of Business Immigration: Law & Practice, 2nd Edition, which is a leading treatise on business immigration matters. He serves as Vice Chair of the AILA USCIS HQ (Policy and Benefits) Committee, and as a member of the AILA Innovation & Technology Committee. Mr. Miner speaks regularly around the country on topics relating to high-skilled immigration.
Michelle Suzanne Canero, Miami, FL
Michelle graduated from The University of Miami School of Law in 2006 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2007. After a short career in civil litigation, Michelle began practicing immigration exclusively in 2009. She currently sits on the Board of Immigrants List and AILA South Florida Chapter. She often speaks on immigration issues at local chambers of commerce, professional organizations, academic institutions, AILA South Florida events and webinars, as well as on CLE panels for both AILA and Catholic Legal Services.
Robert G. Nadalin, San Diego, CA
Robert Nadalin is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Specialist in the field of Immigration and Nationality Law. Mr. Nadalin previously served as the AILA San Diego Chapter Chair, as a member of the AILA Board of Governors, and as a member of the USCIS California Service Center liaison committee. He received his J.D. from South Texas College of Law (1998).
Eligible participants can receive up to 1.8 CLE credit hours. AILA will administer CLE credit only to individuals who register and log into the web seminar. AILA cannot verify your attendance and participation in this program unless you register directly for the web seminar and use your name to log in to participate in the program. Therefore, persons who log in or listen in on the web seminar as part of a group will not be able to obtain CLE credit.
