Associates are essential to getting client work done in a law firm. As they mature as lawyers, they must acquire additional skills to grow and evolve personally and professionally. AILA is pleased to offer a first-of-its-kind opportunity to help firms develop their next generation of leaders.
Over the course of two days, AILA’s practice management and ethics experts, Reid Trautz and Charity Anastasio, will provide associates with the knowledge and skills they need to develop more clients, be more efficient, handle more responsibilities, and achieve professional fulfillment.
We’ll cover essential knowledge associates need, such as:
Marketing
- Fundamentals of marketing (including the latest insights from the AILA Marketplace Study)
- How to develop a personal marketing plan within the firm
- Branding, positioning, websites, and social media presence
Finance and Operations
- The economics of law practice, setting fees, budgets, billing and collections, client payment plans, and more
- How to track your firm’s performance, profitability, and growth
- Office systems, processes, and policies to help firms thrive
Leadership
- Fundamentals of leadership: managing and motivating paralegals and staff
- Dealing with distractions, difficult people, and discouraging outcomes

- Tools and techniques to find balance between firm, family, and self
To foster an intensive, interactive learning environment, space in this workshop is limited, and registration per firm is limited to two associate lawyers. Attendees will return to the firm professionally challenged with a new sense of purpose, ready to be of greater value to the firm.

As a leader of this workshop, Reid Trautz brings his experience as a small firm associate rising to partner, coupled with his 25 years of providing sound yet innovative management advisory services to lawyers and law firms.
Reid is a nationally recognized advisor, author, and educator on practice issues, including business process improvement, law practice technology, law firm marketing, financial management, and legal ethics. As Director of the AILA Practice & Professionalism Center, he helps firms of all sizes improve their businesses and the delivery of legal services to their clients.
He is co-Editor-in-Chief of the AILA Practice & Professionalism Toolbox, co-author of The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to Success: Essential Tips to Power Your Practice, published by the ABA, and is a frequent contributor to legal publications nationwide.
Reid is an elected Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management. He was named to the Fastcase 50 list of global legal innovators in 2012. He is admitted to the bars of Minnesota (inactive), Virginia, District of Columbia, and U.S. Supreme Court.
Reid leads an active life with his wife, Mimi, and their three sons. When not at home in Virginia, they like to travel the United States, discovering local diners, drive-ins, and dives, and riding roller coasters until they can't anymore.
Charity Anastasio is the Practice and Ethics Counsel for AILA’s Practice & Professionalism Center. She brings transformative energy and inspiration to AILA members on ethics and practice management issues by using one-on-one consultations, publications, presentations, and collaboration with AILA’s Ethics Committee, Lawyer Well-Being Committee, Tech and Innovation Committee, as well as practice committees and interest groups. She has consulted with hundreds of lawyers on their business and professional quandaries, giving practical, candid advice to each one. You will need all room occupant names and ages when making a reservation at one of the Disney Resorts. If you have children under 18 years staying with you, please do not include them in the total guest count until you get to the section for entering names and ages. If you include them in the guest count initially, you will be charged $35 for the additional persons. For further details on booking your stay with children, please review the instructions.

Hotel Cut-off Date: May 17, 2023
One night’s deposit of room and tax is required at the time of the reservation at all AILA hotels. The deposit is fully refundable if cancelled 72 hours prior to the arrival date at the Gaylord Palms Resort and 5 days prior to the arrival date at the Disney Resorts. Hotel reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rooms at the AILA rate will sell out before the deadline, so we advise you to make your reservation as early as possible. AILA will not be able to get additional rooms at the AILA rate after the AILA block of rooms fills up. The specially discounted AILA group rate has been contracted for room nights reserved from June 18–24, 2023, only. The AILA group rate is not guaranteed for any other dates and will be based on availability.
