Our panel of experts will discuss a wide range of crucial substantive and procedural issues impacting removal defense practices. How are immigration judges (IJs) responding to motions to terminate under Matter of Fernandes? How do attorneys respond to notices of intent to take cases off calendar, including when the court issues a notice of intent to take a principal’s case off calendar but omits the derivatives? How do attorneys find accurate information about current IJ procedures and preferences? How are IJs responding to motions to appear either in-person or via Webex?

Recordings will be available approximately two weeks after the live event date. AILA members can access these seminars, with no CLE credit, for free. Recordings are CLE eligible in most jurisdictions and an administration fee is required to obtain CLE credit.

Eligible participants can receive up to 1.8 CLE credit hours. AILA will administer CLE credit only to individuals who register and log into the web seminar. AILA cannot verify your attendance and participation in this program unless you register directly for the web seminar and use your name to log in to participate in the program. Therefore, persons who log in or listen in on the web seminar as part of a group will not be able to obtain CLE credit.

AILA has filed for CLE and specialized credit in all jurisdictions with mandatory CLE requirements. For details about specific approvals, contact us at cle@aila.org.

Andrew K. Nietor (DL), AILA Board of Governors/EOIR Liaison Committee Vice Chair, San Diego, CA

Andrew K. Nietor is the founder of the Law Office of Andrew K. Nietor in San Diego, CA. After graduating from The George Washington University Law School, Andrew worked for Federal Defenders of San Diego as a trial attorney. In 2004, he founded his own firm with a focus on criminal defense and immigration advocacy. Andrew is on the AILA Board of Governors and a member of the EOIR Liaison Committee and the Membership Committee.

Amy Bittner, AILA ICE Liaison Committee Vice Chair, Columbus, OH

Amy Bittner is a partner at Brown Immigration Law where she specializes in removal defense, asylum, and family-based immigration. Amy has been practicing immigration law since 2007 and is a graduate of the Ohio State University. She is a past chair of the Ohio Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and is the current vice-chair of the AILA National ICE Liaison Committee.

Mackenzie W. Mackins, Sherman Oaks, CA

Mackenzie W. Mackins, Esq. is the owner of Mackins & Mackins, LLP. She has experience with removal defense and family-based U.S. immigration legal matters including adjustment of status, waivers, and visas. She also has appellate experience at the BIA and has argued before the Ninth Circuit. During her last semester of law school, Ms. Mackins interned at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC). She is currently a member of AILA and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Ms. Mackins has been a guest speaker at Loyola Law School, AILA National, and LACBA events. Kelly White, Washington, D.C.

Kelly White works alongside detained immigrants in the DC-Maryland-Virginia area and all over the U.S., supervising a team of 60 advocates. She embodies fervent hope and action that local programs will give rise to the Fairness to Freedom Act ("F2F") - creating a public defender-like model in immigration court. She received her JD from the University of California - Davis, a school intensely focused on crimmigration. She is honored to serve as secretary for AILA-DC.
