Part of our Changing the Bench series, this roundtable aims to assist the removal defense bar and help prepare AILA members for future government service.
The impact and effects of Lozada bar complaints are punitive, and not about the merits of a motion to reopen. The facilitators of this roundtable will make the case for reframing the narrative around Lozada to emphasize unity: that we, as the removal defense bar, must stand together. Discussion will cover:
- Lozada Standards: Circuit Court Distinctions, Comparison within Other Areas of Law
- Asking Why: Impact of the Bar Complaint Process on the Removal Defense Bar and Unequal Treatment Between the Defense Bar and OPLA
- Framing and Resisting in Motions Practice before the Immigration Court
This roundtable is available only to AILA members and not CLE eligible. AILA University Video Roundtables are free learning opportunities for AILA members provided via a weekly schedule of live video programming for members to come together from across the country and world to discuss hot topics and network with colleagues in the field. Video Roundtables are part of AILA University programming and each session is hosted by faculty selected for their expertise.
