In 2018, USCIS issued two new memoranda regarding guidance: (1) to deny applications, petitions, and requests without first issuing a Request for Evidence (RFE) or Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID); and (2) for referral and issuance of Notices to Appear (NTAs). Our panel of experts will discuss how these memoranda are being implemented, and will offer practical advice for strategizing, preparing, and representing clients in affirmative cases before USCIS.

CLE Credit

AILA has filed for MCLE and specialized credit in appropriate jurisdictions. To receive CLE credit, attorneys must record seminar attendance and the CLE code provided via webCLE. Eligible participants can receive up to 1.8 CLE credit hours.

The OnDemand Recording format does not qualify for CLE credit in the following jurisdictions: AR, MO, PR, and TN.

Lisa Krueger Khan (DL), Orlando, FL
Lisa Krueger Khan is a sole practitioner in Orlando, FL. She has practiced exclusively in the business and family immigration field for over 22 years. She is a past chair of the AILA Central Florida and a frequent speaker at AILA seminars/conferences. She received her JD as well as an MA in Political Science from the University of Michigan Law School (1994).

Helen Parsonage, Winston Salem, NC
Helen Parsonage based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is certified as a specialist in Immigration Law and in State/Federal Criminal Law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice focusses on complex deportation defense and she works with Indigent Defense Services to consult on the immigration consequences of convictions. She has litigated cases in the immigration courts (focusing on North Carolina and Georgia), before the Board of Immigration Appeals, as well as in the Middle District of Georgia and before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits. She has presented extensively on immigration law, including to the North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and numerous local bar associations. She has been an invited faculty member for numerous AILA and Federal Bar Association, Immigration Law Section conferences. In addition, she has lectured on immigration, as adjunct faculty and as guest speaker, at Wake Forest University School of Law, Elon University School of Law, North Carolina Central University School of Law, and at the University of Carolina Chapel Hill, School of Law. Ms. Parsonage is a member of the EOIR Liaison team for the AILA Carolinas Chapter.

Rossana Rolon Grau, Falls Church, VA
Rossana Rolón Grau is a solo practitioner in Falls Church, Virginia. Before private practice, she served in various capacities at the ICE Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, including a two-year detail as a Special Assistant United States Attorney at the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. Her practice is focused on family-based immigration and removal defense. She received her J.D. from Baylor University School of Law (2003).
