This is a recording of an AILA University Video Roundtable, free for members, hosted on March 19 at 2:00 pm Eastern.
AILA University Video Roundtables are free learning opportunities for AILA members provided via a weekly schedule of live video programming for members to come together from across the country and world to discuss hot topics and network with colleagues in the field. Video Roundtables are part of AILA University programming and each session is hosted by faculty selected for their expertise.
Join AILA for a roundtable discussion on what is happening at the southern U.S. border and how the Biden administration is processing children, families, and other recent arrivals who may be seeking asylum and other relief. Recently, the numbers of people coming to the U.S. border have increased significantly due to seasonal migration patterns. The President and Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas have pledged to uphold American values and protect the “humanity” of people coming to the border. Having entered office only two months ago, the new administration is rapidly moving to establish a safe and orderly process that complies with U.S. humanitarian law. The panelists will provide an update on the current situation as well as the broader policy and political implications of these developments.
