STEM OPT Regulations One Year Later: Policy and Practice Updates - Recording (.MP3)
On May 10, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security implemented major changes to Optional Practical Training (OPT) extensions for F-1 students with post-degree completion from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) academic programs. The panelists will discuss the practical implications of these changes from the perspectives of both students and employers. Panelists also will share lessons learned to achieve the maximum benefit allowed. Finally, they will review strategies to assist those F-1 STEM students eligible under the new regulations, and discuss the intricacies in filing for H-1B (or other nonimmigrant or immigrant status) in connection with STEM OPT.
