Program Electronic Review Management (PERM) applications are used for a wide variety of jobs but few occupations are as carefully regulated as are health care professionals. In this Inside Immigration monograph, AILA's Health Care/ Physicians Committee offers a guide to issues that arise in preparing PERM applications for doctors and other health care workers.

It covers:

  • How to indicate that a medical degree is required on Forms ETA-9141 and 9089
  • PERM registration for health care organizations, physician partnerships, and closely held organizations
  • Licensing requirements
  • Residency training at sponsoring institutions
  • Special consideration for Canadian physicians
  • Advertising and evolving industry standards for minimum requirements

The AILA Health Care Professionals/Physicians Committee works on issues unique to foreign-born physicians and other health care professionals. The committee assists various AILA committees by writing agenda items for upcoming meetings with government agencies, including the Waiver Review Division (WRD) of the U.S. Department of State. The committee also accepts WRD case inquiries, creates practice pointers, and provides support to attorneys who file petitions and applications for health care professionals.
