More than a year since COVID-19 hit the U.S., employers are looking for ways to help navigate employment-based travel issues presented by the pandemic. In this fundamentals/intermediate session, our panel of experts will discuss current travel restrictions and various other immigration-related considerations for employers. This will include working with U.S. embassies to schedule and expedite interviews, as well as strategies to overcome potential ongoing obstacles to travel.

Michelle Suzanne Canero (DL), Miami, FL

Michelle Suzanne Canero, born in Venezuela, moved to Miami, FL when she was eight years old. Michelle graduated from The University of Miami School of Law in 2006 after having received her bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2007. After a short career in civil litigation, Michelle joined Antonia Canero PA in 2009 and began practicing immigration exclusively. Now a managing partner at Canero Immigration Law Firm, she represents foreign nationals from all over the world in all types of immigration matters with a focus on business immigration. She currently sits on the Board of Immigrants List and AILA South Florida Chapter. Michelle has served on and chaired numerous AILA South Florida Committees over the years including, CBP Liaison, Border Patrol Liaison, Business and Investment Committee, and Congressional Liaison. She often speaks on immigration issues at local chambers of commerce, professional organizations, academic institutions, AILA South Florida events and webinars, as well as on CLE panels for both AILA and Catholic Legal Services. She is involved in immigration advocacy with state and federal agencies as well as with local, state, and federal representatives both independently and through the various organizations she is involved in.

Ron Matten, AILA CBP Liaison Committee, West Hollywood, CA

Ron Matten brings a unique and fresh perspective to the practice of business immigration law, with a J.D. from UCLA and degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois, Ron has 25 years of professional experience. Ron built and led several high-performance immigration teams at three of the largest business immigration firms before starting his own firm in 2018. Ron is the former Canada Chapter Chair and currently serves on AILA’s national CBP liaison committee.

Janice Flynn, London, UK

Janice Flynn is the Principal Lawyer of Janice Flynn & Associates. She currently serves as the Secretary of the EMEA Rome District Chapter (RDC) Executive Committee of and is the Local CBP Liaison for the RDC. Ms. Flynn received her J.D. from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois.
