With special thanks to the Kunhardt Film Foundation and the Stop Repeating History campaign.

Please join AILA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee for a panel discussion on the HBO documentary The Soul of America. Based on historian Jon Meacham’s bestseller, the 2020 HBO documentary The Soul of America explores pivotal historical events such as the women’s suffrage movement, the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, McCarthyism, and the struggle to pass Civil Rights legislation in the 1960s. The film recognizes forces of hatred and division as recurring themes in American life, but ultimately gives hope that the lessons of the past may bring the nation closer to achieving its democratic ideals.

The panel will feature immigration legal scholars, advocates, and practitioners, as they reflect on our current critical moment in history, and the themes of nativism, xenophobia, racism, isolationism, and hostility towards others that have occurred throughout history.

Instructions for viewing the documentary will be sent to registrants. A trailer to the documentary is available here: https://www.hbo.com/documentaries/the-soul-of-america.
