AILA staff will be on hand to answer questions and to provide service for AILA Publications, Conferences, Membership; Pro Bono Programs, Information and Liaison, Advocacy, Media and Communications (open until noon).
9:30am – 10:25am Guide to Digital Advocacy
Find out how easy it is to advocate for fair and just immigration policies from your desk or phone. AILA’s Guide to Digital Advocacy will show you the importance and effectiveness of participating in digital advocacy campaigns, as well as resources that are available on AILA.org.
10:30am – 11:25am One Year into the Trump Administration: How the Council Has Responded
Experts from the American Immigration Council (Council), AILA’s non-profit partner, will discuss the impact of President Trump’s Administration on immigration in the U.S. and the Council’s programmatic work in response to his policy changes.
11:30am – 12:25am Launching Your Own Immigration Practice

  • Budgeting and Finances
  • Identifying your ideal client
  • Marketing strategies for new immigration small/solo firms
  • Dos and don’ts of starting an immigration practice

12:25pm – 1:55pm Taste of DC Networking Lunch
Take a mid-day break and join the AILA Executive Committee members, AILA D.C. Chapter and staff for a networking lunch to expand both your immigration knowledge and contact lists. Pick your immigration topic of discussion from our list of suggested topics and pick your place to dine. Topics choices will be provided upon registering for open house. 12:25pm – 3:00pm AILA’s Wellness Center Opens
Given current events, it can certainly be a stressful time to be an immigration attorney. However, to take the best care of your clients, you must take care of yourself. Come discuss your options for practicing Immigration Law with several notable DC area attorneys. Bring questions, learn about different practice settings.
3:00pm – 3:55pm Advanced Legal Research Using AILA Member Benefits and AILALink
This training will cover how to use AILA online properties to conduct legal research and to solve case problems. This training will discuss how to solve case problems and find decisions using AILA.org and Fastcase and how to do advanced research using the powerful tools in the AILA InfoNet Research Library and My Research. This session will also give an in-depth look at how to use AILALink, AILA’s subscription research database offering fully searchable statutes, regulations, case law, and agency correspondence; an expanded version of Fastcase called Fastcase Premium; and $4,000-plus worth of searchable AILA publications, including Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook and Business Immigration: Law & Practice.
