Asylum and Cancellation of Removal—Tricks of the Trade

This 90 minute audio seminar was originally presented May 24, 2011.

Yes, you have copy of the INA sitting on your desk within arm’s reach. Yes, you’ve read Matter of S-E-G-, Matter of Cortez and the REAL ID Act. Eight CFR is bookmarked in your browser. But knowing the law is just not the same as knowing how to litigate. How do you prepare your client so that the judge will find him credible? How do you authenticate that 1992 Albanian birth certificate? Aimed at newer attorneys and more experienced practitioners who need to brush up on their trial skills, this panel will address the practical, day-to-day issues which come up in asylum and cancellation cases in the Immigration Courts.

  • Credibility—It Is Not Just for Asylum Anymore.
  • Nexus and the “One Central Reason”
  • Authentication and Corroboration—How Far Do We Need to Go?
  • Preparing Your Client
  • Working with Expert and Lay Witnesses
  • Discretion
