This 90 minute web seminar was originally presented on March 29, 2011.


Often times we as attorneys try to jump in immediately to fix a problem, but what if there isn’t a problem in the first place? What if your client is a U.S. citizen? This panel will focus on the intricacies in determining whether or not a client has a claim to U.S. citizenship pursuant to the Child Citizenship Act or former law. Additionally, this panel will provide details for filing a certificate of citizenship and obtaining a U.S. Passport.

Robert H. Gibbs (dl), Seattle, WA

Robert H. Gibbs is a founding partner of Gibbs Houston Pauw. His immigration practice includes a strong litigation component, both individual and class action cases. Mr. Gibbs is a 2001 recipient of the AILA Jack Wasserman (litigation) award and the 2009 Carol King Award of the NLG National Immigration Project. He is a former Chair of the Seattle Chapter, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the AILA DHS FOIA-Privacy Office Liaison Committee. He is a 1974 graduate of the University of Washington, and a founder of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.


Robert A. Mautino, San Diego, CA

Robert A. Mautino is a founding partner of the firm Mautino & Mautino and has practiced immigration law since 1979. Mr. Mautino is certified by the State Bar of California as an immigration law specialist. He was a diplomatic and consular officer in the U.S. Foreign Service, a law professor, and Chair of the AILA Southern California and San Diego Chapters, and the San Diego County Bar Association immigration committee. He served as an elected member of AILA’s Board of Governors from 1983 to 1987 and from 2007 to 2010.


Margaret D. Stock, Anchorage, AK

Margaret D. Stock is an attorney admitted in Alaska who earned her J.D. at Harvard Law School, a master’s in public administration at the Kennedy School of Government (Harvard), and a master’s of strategic studies at the U.S. Army War College. She is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Military Police Corps, and currently teaches at the University of Alaska Anchorage. An AILA member since 1993, she has represented many US citizens who have been threatened with deportation.
