Members of the AILA Executive Committee discuss the June 15, 2012 Department of Homeland Security memorandum (which allows certain foreign nationals to have their deportation deferred) and give advice on issues that arise out of these new processes in the interim before we have firm guidance. The speakers address the following topics: immediate action available, timeframe and risks of affirmative applications, work permits, the definition of deferred action, school enrollment, documentation, military service, criminal background, denials, individuals who are already in-status, voluntary departure and travel permission. The discussion is led by William Stock, AILA Treasurer, and features David Leopold, AILA General Counsel and Laura Lichter, AILA President.
